Do You Want to be a Master? Get a Professional Degree in Design

by | Mar 19, 2018 | Arts and Entertainment

Whether you’re just out of high school or have been working for a few years, it’s never too late to become a master at something you love. A Master’s degree in Design gives you all the skills you need to create appropriate objects, environments, systems, and more. Many people consider a new career field because they want to do something they’re passionate about or are already in the field and want to better themselves.

What is it?

The MDDO (Master of Design in Designed Objects) is a two-year program with 66 full credit hours. It is built for people who want to learn more about the technical and critical skills of designing objects. It usually includes two fall and spring semesters (first and second year), with one summer session of six credits to complete the degree. While it is designed to be completed in two years (with one summer), you can take up to four years to complete your degree.

To become a master, you’ll have to first learn what to do and how to do it. Those who consider a Master’s degree in Design will find that practice makes perfect, though everyone is encouraged to find their personality and individuality to become a designer in the real world. You will write a thesis, and here is where you can utilize your critical, commercial, experimental, and speculative approaches to designing.

What They Do

Once you have your degree, it’s important to know what type of jobs you can get. The goal of a designer is to reimagine the systems and objects surrounding them so that they become useful and don’t become obsolete.
